Political Meeting between Respect and the CPA on Friday 7 September

The trustees of the Abbeymills Mosque are aware that a political meeting, open to the public, will be taking place on 7 September in Stratford. The two speakers will be a member of Respect and a member of the Christian People’s Alliance (CPA).

There are no initial designs for the mosque available yet. Given this, the trustees will not be attending nor will they be sending an authorised spokesperson to the event.

When designs become available we will organise a full and extensive public consultation with the local community. This will be very important to us. Then, all members of the community will be invited to participate and share their thoughts on facts, rather than speculation. We will ensure all community groups are represented. The trustees have been, and continue to be, very willing to engage with the local and national media, as well as any local person with concerns, to help clarify any misconceptions.

One of the speakers, Abdul Khaliq Mian, is no longer connected with, and does not represent, the mosque. It would be wrong to consider his views and comments reflect those of the trustees and he will not be taking part in this meeting as a representative of the trustees, either officially or unofficially.

In the meantime, we are always happy to hear from local community members. We want to dispel any myths that may have evolved, and ensure that local people are at the heart of what we do. We have the following methods for local people to contact us:

  • Telephone: 020 7587 3434
  • Email: theteam@abbeymillsmosque.com
  • Or text us by sending your comments or questions to 07797 806537. Remember to include your name and the first line of your address and postcode. This is not a premium rate line - just normal operator charges apply.
